Cinebanter #39: THE KING OF KONG: A FISTFUL OF QUARTERS

The MP3 file of Cinebanter 39 is available here.

In this episode, Michael and Tassoula reminisce about life in the 80s and occasionally refer back to the film they're reviewing, THE KING OF KONG: A FISTFUL OF QUARTERS. In their Last Five®, Michael is all boy with back-to-back Michael Bay choices, while Tassoula finally gets around to watching a trilogy Michael's been bugging her to see. They also ask for listener's help in an announcement at the end of the show. The breakdown is as follows:

• 00:00 Intro
• 00:32 KING OF KONG Discussion, Part 1
• Break
• 17:47 KING OF KONG Discussion, Part 2
• Break
• 33:02 To Sum It Up
• Break
• 33:46 The Last Five®/Listener Last Five® (Scott in Florida)/Show Notes
• 57:50 Credits and Outtakes

Tassoula / Michael -

For the Listener Request show - I'd love for you guys to see Across The Universe.. particularly given T's obsession with all things Beatles... I'm willing to bet she likes it with reservations and Michael hates it.

Bono makes a decent fist of Lucy In the Sky With Diamonds and also I Am the Walrus so the odds are they'll both like it, but with reservations. As a Bod Dylan fan I'm anticipating I'm Not There with similar misgivings to the ones I have about this movie.
Re: King Of Kong as one who grew up in the 70s and 80s in England and haunted the arcades I can assure you it crosses over well. Steve Wiebe comes over as heroic, Billy Mitchell as calculating. I think we saw more of Steve because his story was ultimately more engaging. Billy just seemed dull. Walter was the real star though.
